'The Gentleman Highwayman' or 'Captain Tom King', these were the nicknames of Tom King, renowned highwayman who was active at the beginning of the 18th century around London and Essex. His career ended in 1735 when he was (accidentally?) shot during a robbery by his his partner in crime, Dick Turpin.
