The Roman goddess Diana (or Artemis for the Greeks) was associated with hunting, nature and childbirth. She was often representing wielding the bow and carrying her arrows in a quiver over her shoulder. She was the twin sister of Apollo and became later identified with Selene, the Moon goddess - hence the small moon crescent over the tiara in this example.
