Troyan pottery lidded jar, Bulgaria

Full of folk charm and bursting with colour, this traditional folk Bulgarian lidded jar is a real find. Originating from the northern city of Troyan, in the foothills of the Balkan Mountains, this style of folk decoration is thought to have been inspired by the dazzling patterns on the feathers of peacocks living at the court of the Ottoman Empire.
